Baseball Roundup: Streaks see continued success in Week 3

Wednesday, April 29, 2015 by Aidan Joly

After a solid week two, Saratoga continued their winning ways at home in week three.

Saratoga defeated Bethlehem on Thursday, which was an away game for them, but was moved to their home field, by a score of 14-4. The Streaks were able to get a run on the board every inning except the sixth.

Head Coach Dean Bailey said of getting momentum early, “We got early, and that’s always a good situation, hopefully that relaxes our pitchers and our defense a little bit, they played really well for seven innings today, and were happy to get the win.”

Danny Coleman got the start for the Blue Streaks Thursday, started strong but was pulled in the fourth inning after allowing three runs in the fourth inning. Cory MacArthur finished off the final 3.1 innings in relief, allowing one run.

Jake Fauler only recorded one hit during the game, but reached base five times: once on that hit, three times with walks and once on an error.

It was a very all-around performance on the offensive side, with no star. Bailey said, “Team efforts are always the best wins, because everyone contributes, and the more players contribute, the more successful you can be over the course of the season.

The winning streak continued Saturday, with the Blue Streaks defeating Mohonasen by a score of 10-2.

Danny Hobbs was the star for Saratoga in this game, pitching five shutout innings on only three hits.

“I felt great the whole game and I think it went really well in the first inning,” said Hobbs.

Saratoga started the game strong, grabbing a 4-0 lead after the first inning, and never looked back. They would later add five runs in the fourth inning.

Fauler had yet another strong game, going 4-4 with two runs scored.

“Right now we’re just seeing the ball really well on offense, we’re getting some solid pitching, our defense is strong and it’s giving us opportunities to win,” Bailey said of the second game.

Coleman added two doubles on offense on Saturday.

“It was a good week, we look at the things we did well, correct the things we made mistakes on, and hopefully come out even better on Monday,” Bailey said of week three.

Saratoga is now on a seven game winning streak, they are 8-1 on the season, and will open week four on Monday, playing Ballston Spa at 4:15, then return home on Friday taking on Colonie, then it will be a doubleheader on Saturday, going up with Queensbury and Troy, with the games starting at 4:30 and 7pm, respectively.
