“The Goddess Test” by Aimée Carter is all about misconceptions. Kate’s whole life has been built on a lie to save someone else’s life. Everyone knows about it except Kate. Her mother has had a severe illness for years and this year will be her last unless Kate does something about it. Kate just moved back to her mother’s hometown and has started in a new school. She only has one friend and a cheerleader who hates her guts.
Who would’ve imagined one traumatic event could lead to new-found friendships in the most unlikely places and a glimpse into a different world? When Kate meets a lone teenager with secrets of his own, she needs to decide where her loyalties lie. One wrong move or maybe one very right move will put Kate’s life in the balance. Can a crazy stranger change her life forever or will she die and lose everything in the process?
In Carter’s book I found out new ways to view the world. Her character Kate showed that a hard decision can lead to brighter prospects and even when you think the worlds over, it’s just beginning. This book was extremely hard to put down and it has a couple of sequels, which I can’t wait to read. The suspense in Carter’s book is phenomenal, she has you guessing up to the last page. I also liked the fact that there are no cliff-hangers, until the last page that is. It’s a book you can enjoy for an eternity, especially if you’re a god.
