On homecoming weekend and senior night, the Blue Streaks’ defense was no match for the Brothers of CBA.

CBA defeated the Saratoga Blue Streaks varsity football team at Saratoga Springs High School Friday night by a score of 42-14 in the Blue Streaks’ final home game of the 2014 regular season. Saratoga’s two touchdowns both came in the last quarter from passes to senior receiver Nick Anderson.

“It all started with the offensive line, and once they picked it up, I feel like the offense just kicked it up a notch,” said CBA senior running back and kicker Jaylen McIntyre, who scored nine points in the game.

Jumping into the action with 6:40 to play in the first quarter, Saratoga quarterback Brian Williams threw an interception to CBA back Donald Vivian ran it 21 yards into the end zone to make it 7-0 Brothers, and Saratoga trailed at home for just the second time this season. This would be the first of three interceptions that Williams threw in the first half.

“A lot of guys had off nights,” head coach Terry Jones said after the game. “Sometimes you have to tip your hat to the opponent.”

Late in the first quarter, a 34 yard pass from CBA quarterback Joe Kolbe to receiver Austin Ellis made it 14-0 Brothers. This score remained at the end of the quarter.

With 8:35 to go in the first half, a two yard run into the end zone made it 21-0 CBA, and things were slipping away quickly for the Streaks.

Just about three minutes later, it was 28-0 CBA, thanks to a 26 yard run by Ben Anthony. This was the last scoring the first half.

Early in the third quarter, a series of penalties in one set of downs gave the Brothers five more points and a fourth down. They punted the ball. Later in the quarter, with about 90 seconds to go, a 68 yard run from McIntyre into the end zone made it 35-0 Brothers. This would be how it stayed until the end of the third quarter.

In the last quarter, about three minutes into the final 12 minutes to be played, McIntyre ran another 52 yards to make it 42-0 Brothers.

Saratoga was finally able to get on the board about a minute later, with a 54 yard touchdown pass to Nick Anderson to make it 42-6, after a missed extra point with about eight minutes to play.

With 5:20 to play in the game, a pass to Anderson again from the defensive 31 yard line was put into the end zone, and with the two-point conversion, that was good for the final score of 42-14 Brothers.

“These kids aren’t going to quit and we just wish things had turned out better”, Jones said.

The Streaks suffered their first home loss of the season, putting them to a record of 3-3 on the season. CBA still has only one loss this season.

For the blue Streaks’ senior night, all of the seniors were honored in a pregame ceremony. The seniors on the team are Christian Wagner, Zack Stacey, Jordan Buchas, Frankie Malventano, Ian Cirenza, Mike Gyarmathy, Christian Lewis, Stephen Kim, Christian Barnes, Nick Abate, Asa Connell, and team captains Anderson, Austin Degener and Griffin Clancy.

The Streaks will hit the road next Friday to take on Ballston Spa.
