On Friday, September 23rd, Saratoga Springs high school students packed onto the bleachers for the Toga vs. Guilderland football game, bring plenty of school spirit decked out in all white. Looking at the student section was almost blinding, leaving many to wonder why Student Council never threw their much-anticipated colored powders. Even without that promised pop of color, the student section was still a sight to behold. When it comes to themes, SSHS students go all out because we know SCHOOL SPIRIT IS COOL!
This year, our Football games have stuck to color themes, which means monochromatic is all the rage this fall. Although being restricted to a single color might seem boring, the students of SSHS still found ways to make things a little more interesting.
Let’s take a look at some of the best outfit tricks from the game:
Accessorize- An easy way to make any outfit more fun is by adding accessories. At the Whiteout game, many were seen wearing white bandanas and headbands to add to their looks.
Makeup- often at sporting events students will wear eye black- or in this case, eye white? One of my favorite things to see is colored eyeliner or eyeshadow. You don’t have to be crazy good ad makeup, even just brushing on a quick layer of eyeshadow can make a look more fun. And to top it off you can use colored mascara!
Hats- Hats are a great way to spice up a look and cover up a bad hair day. At the game, lots of students wore baseball caps and visors, as well as the ever-so-popular cowboy hats. However, my personal favorite from the whiteout game was a dazzling unicorn hat.
Sunglasses- I know the games are at night, so what on earth would you wear sunglasses for? Well, if you went to the game, you may have been surprised at how many students you saw wearing sunglasses. I suppose the field lights are pretty bright.
As for the actual clothing worn at the game, if you didn’t wear a sweatshirt, I feel bad for you, because it was freezing. I know, some students may not have white sweatshirts and, even if they do, they likely didn’t want to wear them because it was rumored chalk was going to be thrown (although, in actuality, students seemed to make it out unscathed). Thankfully, most of the students of SSHS remembered to layer so they could stay warm while sticking to the theme.
Although many thought it was just too cold, there were several brave souls sporting t-shirts and even tank tops. If you’re planning on trying this fashion statement, you best be sure to bring some extra school spirit to keep you warm from the inside out!
If you want to add some spice to your game night outfits, try taking some cues from the members of our White Out student section. After the 23rd, the best advice I can give you for a good Football outfit is go all out or just go sit with your mom!
