On Thursday, May 18, the girls’ varsity lacrosse team dominated at their sectionals game against Shen. Following their previous win on Monday, the team continued to show their ability to work cohesively and proficiently. This victory against some of their biggest competition was the cause for major celebration. As seen on Thursday on Shen’s turf, the whole team went crazy. The game ended up being very close and turned from a four-point lead by Toga into a one-point game. But in the end, Saratoga pulled through and made our school proud in a 14-13 win over Shen, assisted in part by goalie Jenna Amodio with her six saves.
Sophomore Janie Baringer also helped her team with three goals and four assists, while senior Allie Shamberger had two goals and four assists. The girls are now headed to the sectional championship on Wednesday, May 23rd against Shaker, where they should watch out for junior Carly Wise, who is a Clemson commit and scored her 200th goal earlier this season in a previous game against Shen.
Throughout the season the team has remained positive and hardworking. Senior Maddy Wood described it as “an amazing experience that I am so happy to be a part of.” This team atmosphere is present throughout most of Toga’s sports teams, the girls’ lacrosse team being a prime example. All the girls worked hard throughout the season, and especially in their sectional games.
On Thursday, Sophomore Faith Britton scored a goal, with junior Parker Laurin doing the same. Wise, a forward, scored four goals to lead the team to their sectional championship. The girls’ varsity lacrosse team has had a great season and could possibly be the next sectional champs in a game you’d be ill-advised to miss.
