Senior Fog: Not Much Sun for this Year’s Senior Class

September 30, 2024 by Emma Gowen (‘25)

This past Friday morning, Saratoga Springs’ class of 2025 trudged onto the football field for the kickoff of their senior year: Senior Sunrise. Dressed in sweats, carrying fluffy blankets, and double fisting caffeinated beverages, everyone was anticipating the sight of warm hues painting the sky.

With students huddled together to combat the crisp autumn air, the waiting began. Despite it only being 6:30am, the sounds of friends laughing and catching up traveled across the field combatting the ominous fog hanging in the air.

Saratoga’s traveling food truck provided warm beverages and breakfasts to students in line hoping for a morning pick-me-up. Other students stopped at Dunkin or Uncommon choosing to bring their own drinks to keep them awake. The early morning after a long week of school was rough but the promise of a gorgeous view made the cool air and extra early morning worth it.

Mother Nature did not oblige. The sunshine we all wished for never showed. Instead, the pitch-black night was replaced with the gray low hanging fog. A rather anticlimactic start to our last year of high school.

Since autumn began, the atmosphere of the event was no surprise. Changing leaves already fill the trees and scatter the ground, crunching beneath sneakers. However, it was still a letdown for many who were looking forward to an exciting start to their Senior year. Looking forward, the energy should be high as Toga approaches Spirit Week leading up to the Homecoming game and dance.

The sunrise may have been disappointing and essentially nonexistent, but there are still loads of events for our Senior year that will make it unforgettable! Hopefully those will be a bit more memorable than the sunrise was.
