Tomorrow, and Tomorrow, and Tomorrow by Gabrielle Zevin

Welcome to the second edition of Five Stars, where I’ll share my favorite, “five-star” reads! These had me hooked from the first page to the last, and I still think about them to this day. As the year comes to a close and January is approaching, I can really reflect on my absolute favorite books out of the 86 I’ve read. This book was a rollercoaster, and it’s one I wish I could read for the first time again. Although not all readers enjoy the same genres, I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys fiction. This book is one of my favorites of all time.

My five-star choice this time is Tomorrow, and Tomorrow, and Tomorrow by Gabrielle Zevin. It’s a different vibe than my pick last time (see Five Stars: None of This is True Book Review – The Lightning Rod !) – this book’s genre is contemporary fiction. I know, I know, it sounds boring – just trust me on this. This book is slower paced than my last recommendation, but in the best way. I wanted to read slower so I could spend more time with the plot and absorb every detail. This book makes you feel all the emotions – joy, grief, anxiety, and more. I was fully immersed in the world, and the characters felt so real- with their well written dynamics and hints of romance and tragedy.

The basic premise follows characters Sadie and Sam, who stumble across each other as young adults, two long-lost friends with a shared childhood. As kids, they bonded over video games; now in adulthood, they decide to create a video game company together. They create their first game, “Ichigo,” which instantly becomes renowned worldwide. Readers get to see the company and characters evolve over the years: their grief, their happiness, and most of all, Sadie and Sam’s friendship.

It’s impossible to sum up this marvel of a book accurately because it’s so extensive – I can’t do it justice in a paragraph. Don’t let the topics in the book deter you – I’m not even interested in video games myself, but I adored this book regardless as it is more than just Sam and Sadie’s video game creation. I’ll leave my recommendation there, because you must read it yourself to fully understand what I mean. I hope I inspired at least one person to read this book. You won’t regret it!

With all that said, happy reading!
