Welcome (or welcome back!) to Five Stars, a series where I share my favorite, “five-star” books that I still think about to this day and wish I could read them for the first time again. It’s safe to say I have read a plethora of books, so to earn a five-star rating, a book must be truly special. My goal through this series is to inspire people to rekindle their love for reading and find books they will enjoy. There’s no better feeling than finding the perfect genre or story for you.
Today’s chosen book is Daisy Jones and the Six by Taylor Jenkins Reid. This is the second book by this author that I’ve recommended (see Carrie Soto is Back Review link), and it’s for good reason. Taylor Jenkins Reid does it for me – her stories have this intangible quality that make them so realistic and immersive. Also, fun fact? I read this book in one sitting. I’m not kidding. It was a good few hours of reading, but I literally could not put this book down. Did my eyes hurt after? Yes, but was it worth it? Absolutely.
This story follows a Fleetwood Mac-inspired rock band in the 60s. You have Daisy Jones, the young, wild, up-and-coming talent in California’s rock’n’roll scene. Then you have The Six, a band trying to become a global phenomenon. We readers witness these two artists rise to fame separately, and their respective scandals and mistakes along the way. Then, one music producer makes the fateful decision to pair Daisy’s vocals with The Six’s musical genius, and something magical happens. Their popularity skyrockets – they become legends. But behind their overwhelming success, a storm is brewing…
I’m going to stop there, because if I haven’t convinced you to read this book already, I don’t think I’ll be able to. For new and experienced readers alike, this book is special. I’m almost positive it will capture your attention like it did to my friends and I. Daisy Jones does not disappoint.
With all that said, happy reading!
