-SSHS Class of 2025’s Upcoming Graduation: The senior class of 2025 will become Toga graduates Friday, June 27, as they walk across the SPAC stage in front of family, friends and teachers and move their tassel from the right side of their caps to the left. Come support them June 27th as they finish off their last year of school in the Saratoga Springs School District and move onto a new chapter of their lives!
-Saratoga Pride Festival to Support the LGBTQIA+ Community: In Honor of June being Pride Month in America, Saratoga Pride will be holding its annual festival on Sunday, June 22nd from 2:00-5:00pm at High Rock Park, commonly known as the location for the Saratoga Farmers Market close to Downtown Broadway. This annual event is full of energy, live music, food trucks, and its share of drag performances to celebrate PRIDE in our community.

-Toga Varsity Baseball Team Wins Regional Championship: Saratoga Springs High School’s Baseball Team has kept their winning streak alive as they took home another win at the Regional Championship game in Onondaga versus Cicero North-Syracuse. Toga won on June 7th with a score of 14-0, giving them even more momentum as they prepare for the State Finals on Friday, 6/13 at Binghamton University.
-Massachusetts Trial This Week on Death of Police Officer John O’Keefe: Back in January of 2022, Boston Police Officer John O’Keefe was found dead in the front lawn of a fellow Boston Police Officer Brian Albert. This case has since drawn exceeding media attention and national scrutiny, as the retrial for his girlfriend, Karen Read, is now underway. Read was arrested in 2022 and charged with second-degree murder, as she was presumed to have intentionally struck O’Keefe with her car. However, although her defense team has argued that this is a coverup story by fellow police officers. A hung jury was the result of Read’s first trial in July of 2024, and now in testimony once again, brow-raising details and drama that have recently been uncovered making the case all the more controversial.

-Elon Musk in Hot Water with President Trump: Across the media recently, tweets and messages have circulated between the leader of the Department of Government Efficiency, Elon Musk, and President Trump. Musk has said he plans to leave the agency after coming out against the White House’s “Big Beautiful Bill” (one planning to continue large tax cuts and bringing changes to Medicaid) calling it a “disgusting abomination” and “too expensive and a measure that would undermine his DOGE work” reported the NY Post. This was only the beginning to what has blown up the internet and the news as a fallout between two of the arguably most powerful men in the country. -National Guard is Deployed in LA as Intense Immigration Protests Arise: Starting Friday night and continuing throughout the weekend, thousands of Los Angeles protesters gathered in response to increased ICE operations and anti-immigration enforcement, after dozens were detained in California amid immigration raids. These protests intensified when the Trump administration deployed the California National Guard to stop the action, after the demonstrators “halted traffic on the 101 freeway as Los Angeles police deemed it an unlawful assembly” said ABC News. With over 2000 National Guardsmen deploying flash-bangs and tear gas into the crowds of anti-ICE protesters, tensions have only risen regarding these immigration clashes.

-Israel Plans to Take “Any Means Necessary” to stop Greta Thunberg’s Gaza Aid Boat: Greta Thunberg, a young environmental activist turned political figure is currently journeying to the Gaza Strip along with 11 other crewmates and activists to provide aid to civilians suffering in Gaza. However, the Israeli government has recently found out about their mission and has vowed to block this boat from giving aid to their enemy. Isreal’s Defense Minister, Israel Katz, recently addressed Thunberg and her group, and said, “to the antisemitic Greta and her fellow Hama propagandists- I will say this clearly: You should turn back, because you will not make it to Gaza”. Updates on their mission to the Gaza Strip have yet to be disclosed.
