Saratoga Boys’ Soccer Stays Hot

October 13, 2025 by Nicholas Humowitz (‘27) On Tuesday, October 7th, the Saratoga Blue Streaks took on Shenendehowa in an intense match with a rowdy crowd in attendance. The Blue Streaks came off of a 4-0 win over Niskayuna last Saturday and have stayed hot ever since, beating Shenedehowa 1-0 and continuing a 3-game winning streak.  The first 20 minutes of the match featured aggressive plays by both Shen and Toga with key players like Calvin Manny, and Jacob Paro weaving through defenders. Although they could not score, they still had some great shots on goal blocked by crucial saves by the Shen goalie. Just before the second half of the 0-0 match began, the crowd cheered louder than they had before, screaming after every 50/50 ball. That excitement helped start a spark in the Blue Streak offense. Less than two minutes into the start of second half Rhys Nectman scored a short distance goal, motivating the crowd into an uproar.  “I was nervous and confident that we were going to win,” Nectman said after the goal.  Shen put together some possessions with potential that did not lead to an answer. Eventually Shen lost possession, and the Blue Streaks took control of the game for the majority of the second half to make sure they were going to walk off the field with a win.  Shen had the last three minutes with the ball on their side of the field to try to pull something off but could not hold on, losing to Saratoga 1-0.  Shen now falls to 4-3-2 with 4 more games left in the season. “It wasn’t pretty at times, but the boys played through it, and we got our composer in the 2nd half, and we won the midfield,” said Coach Lemos.   The Blue Streaks move to 6-2-2 record and with Sectionals right around the corner, Saratoga has won the past three of four games they have played and are looking forward to making a big run.  “I think we can give anyone a game in the section right now. We just have to keep doing the right things,” Lemos said of their chances of winning a sectional title. On the road, Saratoga had a 3-2 win against Guilderland Thursday night. The Blue Streaks have one more home game Thursday, October 16 against a 10-1-2 Bethlehem team.
