SSHS Cracks Down on Securely Flex Passes

October 13, 2025 by Carlin Phillips (‘27)

This past week, Saratoga Springs High School updated their Academic Support Flex rules, meaning that students must have a pre-approved pass in Securely if they want to go to a different Flex room. This is not a new rule, but the administration has become stricter as to enforcing it. The main reason is so students are using their Academic Support Flex wisely, and to ensure there is enough room in the classrooms for students who are going to a certain room to work with a teacher.

As explained by SSHS Principal Michelle Tsao last week, going to different Flex rooms hasn’t been necessarily banned, but students need to create a Securely Pass at least thirty minutes before Flex starts. If they don’t abide by this rule, teachers are able to turn them down, so they are able to leave seats open for the students who have pre-approved passes.

Teachers are also able to turn down students that aren’t in their Flex to work with the teacher, but to see their friends. The same reasons apply for this situation as for the first one. This rule is mainly to make sure that Flex runs smoothly. If you are planning to go somewhere during Flex in the future, be sure to create a Securely Pass and get it approved by the teacher you want to see before going to their Flex. That can be done by an email or stopping by their room beforehand. That way, students can get the help they need with schoolwork, and teachers can provide that help without being worried about students coming to their rooms without them knowing.
