We’ve all seen them; in the classroom and on TikTok, needohs toys have recently resurfaced and are becoming mainstream again, but are people buying too many?
First, we need to figure out why they have made such a comeback. A possible fuel to this fire could have been the popularity of the “mystery dumplings” from Five Below. Towards the end of 2025, everyone was looking for the squishy dumplings found in a blind box and trying to collect all the colors. This created high demand for them, and they started continuously selling out. Many consumers would buy them in bulk, ultimately leading to them having many of the same color, and definitely too much for one person to have. Seeing something like these toys rise in popularity is interesting; it’s as if people get addicted to buying them and searching for the ones they want, that they tend to, dare I say, waste their money on something very unnecessary. People could have moved on to needohs because they were bored. Post dumpling craze, consumers may have been looking for something else to entertain themselves.
Or maybe it’s nostalgic. We can look back on the good old days when people used to trade fidgets in 2020, creating whole TikTok accounts in honor of collecting whichever ones were going viral. People made skits and hauls, and it was mostly because there wasn’t much else to do at the time. The comeback of needohs reflects us reaching back to the past. This goes along with the resurgence of 2016 trends, when the fidget spinner was a thing. Is it possible we are bringing needohs back to fill that void?
The most popular model is the “nice cubes.” This could be a factor of the newfound popularity, however, the creation of the nice cube was in 2023, so its marketing and publicity was long gone by 2026. Needohs are desirable for a number of reasons. They’re trendy, fun, comforting, and collectible, and because of this, they’re addictive, and people tend to buy too much; that money adds up. Now comes the burning question, how many needohs are too many needohs? There are videos of people showing off their “needoh hauls” consisting of bin-fulls of these toys. The company Needoh makes many kinds of needohs, making people feel like they need each and every one. However, all companies essentially do the same thing. The lesson to learn from this is to be mindful of what you spend your money on and, no, you don’t need every single needoh, despite what people try to convince you.
