Saratoga Springs High School’s Pop Culture and the Modern Hero class cordially invites students to attend our school’s very first Comic Con on Tuesday, November 23, during blocks one and three in the library. The day will be filled with costumes, fan art, and video games – this event has something for everyone and is not one to miss.
According to pop culture student Alex Roginski, SSHS’s Comic Con will serve as a forum for students to share their passions and fandom with peers. Among the fanbases featured are “Star Wars,” Disney, video games, comic books, and nostalgic movies, shows, and music.
Students have many options for representing their fandom and displaying their talents at Comic Con. For the artistically inclined, fan art can be submitted for display prior to the event by emailing Chloe Casavant (c_casavant@sscsd.net).
Roginski said students are also encouraged to dress up to their comfort level, while abiding by dress code rules. COVID masks will be required, but no props, full coverage face masks, or face paint are allowed. Students are welcome to dress casually if that feels more comfortable.
“You don’t need to dress up in a full-blown princess gown. … You can bring that bowler hat from that movie you love,” said Roginski. “You can [dress] chill.”
Video games will be set up at the event and attendees will have the opportunity to participate in friendly “Super Smash Bros.” and “Mario Kart” competitions.
During block one, full classes are welcome to attend. Interested students should ask their teachers to contact Ms. Amey in B116 for more information. During block three, individual students can attend during their lunches or study halls. Passes will be distributed during study halls. In order to register for a pass, students should scan and sign the Comic Con waiver. Space is limited, so interested students should act fast to ensure they are able to attend.
