Homecoming: Better Every Year

Did you go to this year’s homecoming dance? Maybe it was the best night of your life, or maybe you left after 20 minutes, but what did the student body think as a whole?

On the Thursday before the homecoming football game, Student Council closed their ticket sales at over 800 tickets. These ticket sales surpassed last year by over 100 and caused the ticket booth to run out of tickets to hand out to eager recipients. So, technically, the dance was a success in raising student interest and creating profit, but that doesn’t necessarily make for a fun experience.

The line to get into homecoming wrapped around the front of the school to the senior lot, leaving over a hundred kids outside waiting for entry. However, the overall sentiment was that the line was worth the experience of the dance. In fact, many said that it was better than last year. Homecoming 2022 was the first homecoming dance the school hosted since COVID hit in 2019. Many students hadn’t been to a school dance in years, if they had ever been at all. Now that Hoco 2022 broke the ice, the dance of 2023 was more relaxed and better attended.

Homecoming is cherished by students because it is tradition, because it’s predictable. The outfits, the decorations, the recycled music. But truly, that is what makes it so loved. That is the homecoming we got this year. A homecoming free of COVID, with lots of bottled water, nonstop music, and a picture wall.

Special thanks to our Student Council for putting so many hours into an amazing homecoming.
