March 16, 2026 by Katie Plue (‘27)
The past week we got a taste of what spring 2026 has to offer us, with two 70 degree days. March 21st is on its way with warmer weather in our future, so let’s talk about clothes for the upcoming spring.

Spring can be an awkward season to dress for. It’s cold in the morning but hot in the afternoon, and there’s never a spot of ground that’s not soaked from melted snow. Layers are going to be key, and denim jackets are a great option. Jean jackets have been out for a while now but have come back recently in a fresh style. Pinterest girls like to style them in a casual way, with fold over yoga pants or sweatpants, a sweatshirt or tank on top. Because they are lighter, jean jackets are perfect to wear in the spring without getting too hot. Jean jackets elevate your outfit in a way that lets you stay comfortable, and look put together;all the it girls understand that.
Matching sets have been increasing in popularity since the holiday season. Everyone’s been gifted a Garage sweat set. Moving into spring, that’s why so many people are wearing the Hot Shot Crossover set from Free People. I saw a ton of these Monday and Tuesday when the high was 70. It makes for an easy outfit to put together in the morning and keeps you at a regulated temperature. With its breathable material and loose fit, it makes a perfect leisure or athletic look. I could definitely see it making a cute pickle ball outfit.

Something has to protect our eyes from the early sun reflecting off the snow. With the cycle of trends flowing in and out, big sunglasses have made a comeback, and the bigger the better. Vintage clothes and thrifting have been in for a while, and we’ve seen the thin wire glasses blow up over the last couple summers. Big glasses are coming back with the return of polka dots and skinny jeans. Throwing on a pair of these feeds into the “off duty model” style, which is one of my personal favorites, and definitely gives Kardashian 2010s in the best way. They make you look like a celebrity caught in paparazzi.
Butter yellow saw success at the end of last summer but didn’t have enough time to really flourish. After hibernating for the winter, yellow is ready to come back alongside its competitors cobalt blue and daisy pink. Yellow’s dainty aesthetic perfectly matches the flowers of spring, adding a feminine touch to an outfit through a colorful tank top or sweatshirt.

Hear me out, chunky flip-flops. Instead of close toed flats for the spring, we swap them out for platform black or white flip-flops. I can hear everyone calling me crazy already, but it makes perfect sense. Returning to that 2000s style mixed with “off duty model,” wearing a pair of flip-flops with jeans and a tank creates a casual and cute outfit; plus, you can still walk around without your feet hurting. We need to start normalizing flip flops.
Even though we only got a sample of nice weather, I’m still preparing for spring, and wearing spring clothes, in the 40-degree weather. If I can’t physically be warm, at least let me pretend. Stay strong guys, spring will come at some point. Oh, and someone has to do something about that groundhog.
