Global:

-The Strait of Hormuz and Iranian Debacle: In the midst of the United States-Iran conflict, which has been escalating over the past few months, Iran reversed course this past Saturday on reopening the Strait of Hormuz, warning it would continue to block transit “as long as the U.S. blockade of Iranian ports remained in effect,” according to AP News. Additionally, President Donald Trump said the “U.S. forcibly seized an Iranian flagged cargo ship that tried to get around a naval blockade near the Strait of Hormuz” reported The Hill. This came along with reports that two gunboats from Iran’s Revolutionary Guards had opened fire on a tanker in the waterway that same day. Trump had announced earlier that U.S. negotiators would speak with Iran to prolong the ceasefire set to expire on Wednesday, but this news has muddied the situation and may result in this meeting being postponed. This standoff continues to threaten the lives of those in Iran, Lebanon, Israel, and other Gulf Arab states. The increase in fighting has already killed at least 5,400 people and is only deepening a global energy crisis along with these fatal deaths.
